Soft Tissue Tumors

Soft Tissue Tumors

Soft tissue tumors are a relatively rare type of cancer that begins in the tissues that connect, support, or surround other body structures (such as muscles, fat, blood vessels, nerves, tendons, and joint tissues). These tumors require accurate diagnosis and advanced treatment plans due to their wide variety of types and different locations in the body.

Types of Soft Tissue Tumors

Soft tissues include dozens of subtypes, the most prominent of which include:

  • Rhabdomyosarcoma: Usually affects skeletal muscle tissue.

  • Liposarcoma: Arises in fat cells.

  • Synovial Sarcoma: Usually found near joints and limbs.

  • Angiosarcoma: Affects the inner lining of blood or lymphatic vessels.

Symptoms and Early Signs

In the early stages, clear symptoms of soft tissue tumors may not appear, but as the tumor grows, prominent signs to watch for include:

  1. Appearance of a lump or swelling: Under the skin, often painless at first, but may increase in size over time.

  2. Pain or feeling of pressure: Occurs if the tumor presses on surrounding nerves or muscles.

  3. Limited mobility: Especially if the tumor appears in the limbs or joints.

Modern Diagnostic Methods

Our integrated diagnostic program relies on the latest medical standards to ensure accurate determination of the tumor type and stage, including:

  • Advanced imaging tests: Such as Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or Computerized Tomography (CT) scans to precisely determine the tumor’s size and location.

  • Biopsy: To obtain a tissue sample and examine it in the laboratory to accurately determine the cell type and tumor grade.

Integrated Treatment Options

A personalized treatment plan is designed for each patient based on their health condition, tumor size, and location. Options include:

  • Surgical treatment: Precise removal of the tumor with a margin of healthy tissue to ensure it does not return.

  • Radiation therapy: Sometimes used before surgery to shrink the tumor or afterward to eliminate any remaining cells.

  • Chemotherapy and targeted therapy: Used for specific types that respond to systemic drugs to control the disease and reduce its spread.

Follow-up and Supportive Care

We believe that the treatment journey does not end with surgery or sessions, but requires:

  • Periodic follow-up programs and regular check-ups for reassurance and to prevent any early recurrence.

  • Comprehensive psychological and nutritional support for the patient and their family throughout the treatment period.
